Higher quality paint is much thicker and usually contains primer which means that you're walls will have a much thicker coat of quality paint. Less expensive paint tends to be water down so it's a lot more watery therefore you get a much thinner layer of paint on the wall. This means that a 2nd or 3rd code is needed.
So yes more expensive paint is definitely better.
